António Nascimento, founder of Óptica Nascimento in Aveiro, has passed away, leaving a void in all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

On its official Facebook page, his team bade him farewell with these words: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. António Nascimento, our founder. We thank him for everything he taught us, for a lifetime of dedication and for the example he leaves us. We will continue to honour his legacy every day, with the same care and rigour he always instilled in us. Farewell, Mr. Nascimento.”

This year, António Nascimento was honoured with the Career Award at the ÓpticaPro Awards. At the awards ceremony in April, he said that receiving the prize “was an emotional surprise and a moment that will stay in my memory forever. A career is built day by day, with dedication, with constant learning and, above all, with the people who accompany us along the way.” He added: “I would also like to congratulate the organisers of this event. More than a moment of celebration, it is a unique space for meeting, sharing and fellowship among professionals who live optics with passion. And, let’s face it, these moments of genuine connection between colleagues only happen here. On behalf of the Óptica Nascimento team, we hope this event continues to unite the sector.”

The relationship with ÓpticaPro, however, goes back much further. António Nascimento was the star of our second cover, in February 2005, and contributed to the magazine in several other issues. You can read again the interview he gave us more than 20 years ago.

In this moment of grief, the ÓpticaPro team extends its heartfelt condolences to António Nascimento’s family and friends, bidding farewell to a man who left his mark on the optical sector.
