Under the theme “Évora, European Capital of Optometry”, the next edition of the congress aims to establish itself as one of the main meeting points for Portugal’s professional and scientific community in optics, optometry and contact lens practice, bringing together optometrists, optical professionals, students, researchers, academics, speakers, companies, and representatives of leading brands and organisations in the sector.
The choice of Évora as the host city for the XXIX CIOC’27 carries particular significance. In 2027, the city and the Alentejo region will be European Capital of Culture, at a time of national and international prominence that will place Évora at the heart of Europe’s cultural and scientific agenda. Against this backdrop, the Portuguese Professional Union of Opticians and Optometrists (UPOOP) aims to build a bridge between culture, science, knowledge and the profession, turning Évora, for three days, into a meeting point for the Portuguese and international optometry community.
Registration for XXIX CIOC’27 is now open through UPOOP’s official platform. Registration options are available for UPOOP members, Optometry degree students, and non-members/members of other professional associations, enabling a wide range of audiences connected to optics and vision sciences to take part.
UPOOP members also benefit from special participation conditions, including 15 hours of Continuing Education in Optometry, as well as the 13 March dinner included in the registration fee. A promotional rate offering more than 20% off is available until 30 November 2026, and the organisers are therefore encouraging participants to register early.
