We were talking to Elísio Marques and João Cunha, CEO and commercial director of Morel Portugal, respectively. The purpose of this meeting was to take stock of the company’s fisrt year and a half of activity in our country, which – according to those responsable – is 100% positive.
Morel Portugal started operating in July 2018, but it was a few months earlier, in May, that DMDI – Eyewear Solutions announced the creation of this new company. The disclosure happened within the framework of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of DMDI, company directed by Elísio Marques.
At the time, general director of Morel Internacional, Jérôme Morel, said that “the family” had grown. The creation of our co-company Morel Portugal is an excellent opportunity that will strengthen our presence in the market. Alone we go faster, but together we go further”.
Elísio Marques added that, “after two decades, it is a great pride to be able to share the same values of a house like Morel”. The Portuguese responsible assumed that “we are talking about a company with over 140 years of existence, with great credibility in the international market. Moreover, it is a family structure (which is already in the fourth generation, something rare to happen!), independent and dynamic, that over the years has known how to overcome the whims of this sector”.
When asked about the national market’s acceptance of this bet, they said it could not be better. “We feel that by being associated with a name like Morel, we get even greater credibility from the opticians. And today, credibility is substantial. We also feel more strength and confidence from our partners, willing to continue to develop the business with us.”
