CooperVision organized two “unforgettable moments,” in Lisbon and Porto, to unveil its latest innovation: the MyDay® MiSight® 1 day contact lenses for myopia control, “a proposal that opens a new path for young myopic patients and for the professionals who accompany them in their eye care.”
The ÓpticaPro team attended the event further north, held at the Hotel Crowne Plaza Porto, on the iconic Avenida da Boavista. In an elegant and welcoming atmosphere, and with the unique energy of the “Invicta” city, we had the opportunity to stand side by side with professionals who share the same ambition: to keep evolving in contact lens practice and to generate a positive impact on patients’ lives.
Miguel Ángel Perez, MiSight® 1 day Senior Specialist at CooperVision Iberia, took the stage to introduce the speakers and guide attendees through a memorable session. “We are at a key moment for our industry,” he emphasized, highlighting the gathering of more than 150 professionals as proof of the sector’s dynamism. The tone was set: technology, innovation with real impact, and the reinforcement that “there is always a contact lens for every unforgettable moment.”
The first to be called to the stage was Ricardo Seco, commercial director of CooperVision Iberia, who presented the data underpinning this optimism. In Portugal, the contact lens category is growing at a rate of 10 to 11% per year (above the Iberian average of 7.2%), with a penetration rate still below 6% of the population. “This opens up a very positive horizon, which is the whole opportunity that exists to increase this penetration,” he stated.
Carina Antunes, Area Manager of CooperVision in Portugal, presented the MyDay® range through a familiar metaphor: just like the family that accompanies us through every stage of life, the spherical, toric, and multifocal range covers visual needs from childhood through adulthood.
Regina Rodrigues, head of professional services at CooperVision in Portugal, revealed the evening’s central launch: the MyDay® MiSight® 1 day. The new lens combines Active Control technology — backed by more than 10 years of clinical evidence and more than 225,000 children treated worldwide — with silicone hydrogel material, the market leader in comfort and oxygen permeability.
Tiago Fernandes, an ophthalmologist at Hospital de Braga, presented the clinical and scientific perspective. The specialist stressed the importance of communicating to families that “every diopter counts” and that myopia is much more than just difficulty seeing at a distance.
And, to close the evening in style, nothing like a one-of-a-kind moment. Luís Filipe Borges took the stage and guaranteed the laughs. Widely recognized for his humor, this comedian — who has lived with vision problems since childhood — has a gift for finding the comic side of everyday life.
