The Portuguese Professional Union of Opticians and Optometrists (UPOOP) officially unveiled its new mobile app and new website at Shamir’s headquarters in Portugal, in Vilar, Vila do Conde. The launch took place on July 9, marking a new step in the association’s modernization and in the way it relates to its more than one thousand members.

Designed to simplify processes and centralize relevant information, the new platforms — developed with the support of Shamir and FeediU — offer features such as electronic prescriptions with validation by external entities, access to account statements (including membership fees and continuing education hours), and simplified access to documents related to association life. Developed with a focus on usability, accessibility, and efficiency, they aim to provide a simpler and more practical experience for professionals in the sector.

The launch event brought together nearly fifty members, partners, and other professionals from the optical sector. The program included remarks from Luís Feijó, general director of Shamir in Portugal, Henrique Nascimento, president of UPOOP, Bruno Monteiro, member of UPOOP’s board, and Filipe Lemos, head of FeediU, who presented the new platforms and shared the three entities’ vision for this project. In addition to the presentation of the new digital solutions, participants had the opportunity to visit Shamir’s factory in Portugal, getting a close-up look at the ophthalmic lens production process and some of the technologies used daily by the company. The event ended with a networking session, accompanied by an acoustic performance by the group ADLIB Strings.
