Without a hiatus since 2006, the 19th edition of the Scientific-Technical Contactology Conference (CONTACTUM2024) took place on February 6. The Universidade do Minho (UM) initiative once again took place online, via Zoom, to an audience of more than 400 people. ÓpticaPro spoke to Rute Araújo, who holds a PhD in Optometry and Vision Sciences and is responsible for organizing the event.

The 19th edition of the Scientific-Technical Contactology Conference (CONTACTUM2024) took place on February 6, 2024, virtually. The event, which was attended by more than 600 people, was “very positive”, in the words of Rute Araújo, who also said that there were “always around 400 online participants in the webinar”.

According to the organizer, “CONTACTUM has been consolidating itself over the years and, at the moment, it’s an event that professionals look forward to year after year”. In this sense, she highlights that the satisfaction levels of the participants “show that more than 95% consider the content to be very relevant and very useful for their training and professional practice”.

Regarding the topics discussed, Rute Araújo points out that “at CONTACTUM, professionals can always expect the latest updates in the contact lens sector and this year was no exception”. Sponsors therefore had the opportunity to present their latest advances and showcase their new products, whether in multifocal contact lenses (“CL”), maintenance solutions, CL for controlling the progression of myopia, prosthetic lenses, or rigid gas-permeable lenses.
