The Portuguese National Association of Opticians (ANO) strongly condemns the conduct of Fabrióptica, which owns ‘Fábrica de Óculos do Cacém’ and ‘Chiado Eyeglass Factory’ in Lisbon. They are sending advertising messages to clients and potential customers, urging them to leave their homes to visit their stores in the middle of the State of Emergency, not complying with the legislation in force.

Moreover, the ANO knows that this company is not respecting the law in force, because on a daily basis, and especially in the Cacém store, they have too many customers inside their establishment without complying with the minimum distance established.

In a statement sent to the editors, the ANO considers this type of practice an attack on the most basic ethical principals and even on public health, especially during this State of Emergency. This also denigrates the image of all professionals in the sector who are at the front line of the fight against this pandemic – by the recommendation of the Government! – and who, on a daily basis open the doors of their optician’s establishments, providing access of essential goods to the Portuguese population, complying with the legislation in force and all the rules and recommendations from the Directorate-General of Health (DGS).
