After lunch on 10 July, “we had a coffee” with Fernando Casinha, sales director at Indo Sedosa. This initiative, organised by the Facebook group Optical News Portugal, remotely brought together some professionals in the field.

One of the issues raised by the participants was the role of online retail in optics. For Fernando Casinha, it’s an undeniable reality that’s here to stay. “I want to believe that optical professionals will be difficult to replace with machines in terms of retail but also visual health. There will always be some consumers who prefer the traditional, local opticians to the more convenient and stronger alternatives. Humans still need contact and more professional advice. However, online retail is a trend that’s here to stay and every optician will have to adjust as best as they can”.
