The University of Minho (UMinho) is among the twenty best institutions worldwide in the teaching of optometry and vision sciences, being the only one in the European Union and non-Anglo-Saxon. The ranking published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Optometry <\/a>assessed 245 universities from 46 countries in terms of the impact of scientific publications in the area. The top 20 includes eight US universities, five from the UK, three from Australia and one each from Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez-M\u00e9ijome, president of the School of Sciences of UMinho and full professor of Optometry and Vision Sciences states, in an online publication<\/a> that “this result recognizes the UMinho in the international vanguard of teaching and research, attracting human capital and projects that take the good name of the Portuguese optometry to the whole world”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new ranking<\/a>, published on the 31st of October, is led by the University of California at Berkeley (USA) and was coordinated by the team of Australian researcher Nathan Efron. The author had already released in March the top 200 most influential optometrists in the world, three of them from Portugal, all from UMinho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our students have the opportunity to be involved in research from an early age and receive classes from a highly prepared, dynamic and reputable faculty”, continues Jos\u00e9 Gonz\u00e1lez-M\u00e9ijome. The lecturer also highlights the commitment to pedagogical innovation, the adaptation and constant improvement of the course programmes and the diversification of the training offer, such as short specialisation courses in person and online.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
