The new UPOOP (Portuguese Association of Opticians and Optometrists) app and website will be officially launched on 9 July, from 2:30 p.m., at Shamir Portugal’s headquarters in Vilar, Vila do Conde.

The launch event will bring together around 50 guests, including UPOOP members, partners, and representatives from the optical sector. The programme will also include a guided tour of Shamir’s production facility and networking opportunities. The official presentation of the new platforms will be led by Bruno Monteiro, member of the UPOOP Board of Directors, together with a representative from FeedIU.

With more than 1,000 members, UPOOP is now taking an important step towards modernising its digital presence and strengthening its relationship with professionals across the sector through platforms designed to simplify processes and centralise information. Sponsored by Shamir and FeedIU, the new solutions have been developed with a strong focus on usability, accessibility, and efficiency, enabling members to quickly access relevant information and manage their professional and association-related activities more effectively.

Among the app’s key features are an electronic prescription system with validation by external entities, including insurance companies; access to members’ account information, including membership fees and continuing professional development (CPD) hours; and simplified access to association-related documents such as meeting minutes, reports, and other important communications.

“The modernisation of the optical sector also depends on creating tools that are more user-friendly, intuitive, and aligned with the real needs of professionals.
